Built for Irish weather. No compromises on finish.
If you're investing in outdoor living, a patio, garden dining area, or covered lounge, a pergola is what makes it usable year-round rather than just on the three weekends of Irish summer that justify the spend.
Royale Stones’ aluminium louvred pergola range is selected for structural integrity, weather performance, and a clean contemporary profile that works alongside porcelain paving, composite decking, and natural stone equally well.
Both models are freestanding, constructed from high-grade powder-coated aluminium in graphite grey, and rated to withstand wind speeds of up to 35m/s; relevant in Ireland in a way it isn't in southern Europe.
Our Pergolas Range
The manual entry point into the range. The Carlisle has the same louvred aluminium roof construction as the Villa, adjustable between open, filtered shade, and full cover, but operated by hand crank rather than a motorised system. Available in two footprints: 3x3m for a contained seating area, or 3x4m for a larger dining or entertaining space.
The concealed drainage channels run through the posts, keeping the floor underneath dry and usable when the roof is closed. Optional zip blinds can be added to enclose sides against wind and driving rain; a practical addition for Irish conditions on exposed sites.
The premium model. Same structural spec as the Carlisle, with remote-controlled motorised roof adjustment and integrated dimmable LED strip lighting built into the frame. The lighting runs along the interior perimeter; no external fittings, no visible cabling. The 3x4m footprint is the only available size.
The motorised roof and built-in lighting are what convert a covered outdoor structure into a usable evening and year-round space, without the need for separate electrical installation for external lighting. If you're laying paving and building an outdoor living area from scratch, this is the specification to plan around.
Pairing Your Pergola With Paving
A pergola without the right surface underneath it is an incomplete project. The paved area under and around a pergola needs to handle water run-off from the drainage system, outdoor furniture loading, and the transition from garden to covered structure.
Our outdoor porcelain paving range includes formats that work well under pergola structures, large-format slabs in 900x600mm, 1000x1000mm, and 1200x600mm that minimise joints and handle the drainage volumes a closed pergola roof directs to the perimeter. Premium outdoor porcelain in graphite and dark grey tones coordinates directly with the graphite aluminium pergola frame.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need planning permission for a pergola in Ireland?
In most cases, no. A freestanding garden pergola that doesn't exceed the relevant height threshold and is not attached to a dwelling typically falls under permitted development rights. However, this depends on your specific site, local authority, and whether the property has conditions attached to previous planning grants. We recommend checking with your local authority before installation if you have any doubts.
Can these pergolas handle Irish weather?
Both models are wind-rated to 35m/s (approximately 120km/h), and the louvred roof system is waterproof when closed. The concealed drainage channels manage rainfall run-off through the posts. The powder-coated aluminium frame is corrosion-resistant. They are built for outdoor use in a temperate, wet climate, not retrofitted from a product designed for Mediterranean conditions.
Do the pergolas require a concrete base?
A solid, level base is required; poured concrete, paving slabs, or a compacted sub-base with appropriate surface are all suitable. The posts fix to the surface with the supplied anchor plate fittings. If you're laying new paving as part of the project, plan the pergola footprint before the paving is laid so anchors can be positioned correctly.
What's the difference between the Carlisle and Villa?
Construction and footprint are similar. The Villa adds a remote-controlled motorised roof system and integrated dimmable LED lighting. The Carlisle uses a manual hand crank and has no built-in lighting. The Villa is only available at 3x4m; the Carlisle comes in 3x3m or 3x4m.
Can I add sides or enclosures?
Yes, both models are compatible with optional heavy-duty zip blinds that enclose one or more sides. These provide additional protection from wind, driving rain, and direct sun. Contact us to discuss zip blind options and pricing.
